Little Rock Nine

I met Carlotta Walls LaNier tonight.  She was one of the Little Rock Nine that went to the all white Central High School in Arkansas.  Listening to her speak about her experience, brought tears to my eyes.  She told us that she didn't understand how hard it had been on her parents that first year, until she became a parent herself.

Every time I read a Ruby Bridges book to my class, I think about her parents.  I can't believe they let their little baby girl go to William Frantz Elementary School.  I am very glad that they did, but I could never do it.  I will gladly sacrifice myself for a cause that I believe in, but I'm way to overprotective to send my children out into the scary world.  These people are heroes and their bravery is untouchable.

My class got to take the stage for a minute to accept our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr video award.  I'm so proud of this group.  They really work together and help each other out day in and day out.   I hope that someday my students will look back on this day and realize what an honor it was to be in the same room with Mrs. Carlotta Walls LaNier.

nice break

This break has been a lot of fun.  I've spent a lot of time with my boys playing in the snow, playing games, watching movies, and shopping.  I saved all of my Christmas shopping for the week before Christmas.  It was kind of crazy, but I got it all done.

I'm worried about all of this snow.  I've heard that it's going to be a very snowy winter.  I do not want anymore snow days!  Our new superintendent needs to find the love of a good two hour delay.

I'm trying to think of a clever New Year's resolution.  I can't think of anything.  I've been to the Iron Pit almost every day over break, but I don't do weight loss or exercise resolutions.  I hope something comes to me soon because it's going to be to late to declare one.
