kid pitch

Today was Henry’s first kid-pitch baseball game.  He pitched the first inning.  I was on edge.  He walked a couple of people and I was a nervous wreck.  I kept saying things like, “take your time”  “right to the glove” and “you can do it”  but inside I was dying.  I wanted him to be perfect, because everyone was watching.  WTF???   It was his first kid-pitch game ever!!!  And he had to pitch the first inning.  His age group is made up of 3rd and 4th graders and he is the youngest kid on the team!   perspective…  It’s a word for a reason!

So, after Henry got the 3rd out, (he struck the kid out) he came off the mound, through the dugout and straight to my LAP!  I asked him if he was ok, and he said, “yes."  I said, “wow, that must have made you nervous.”  And he said, "YES it did.”

I was so proud of him and I can’t wait until the next game.

the leaf

We went to Chimney Rock, NC for Thanksgiving break in 2009.  We hiked a ton and met up with some of my mom’s family while we were there.  I don’t know why, but I’ve been thinking about this picture of Henry and the leaf he found all day today.

He found this leaf and he carried it around, like it was his pet, for almost 2 hours.  He wanted to take it back to Indiana, but it was falling apart after all the hugs he had given it.

Game 7

Blackhawks are playing right now.  Henry and I are reading internet feeds to get the score.  We came across Violet and her song….

what a day

Today was STRESSFUL!!!!!!  We took all of the 4th graders on a field trip to a lake close to my school.  It rained about 2 or 3 inches last night, so it was wet and muddy and also, only about 40 degrees outside.  Most of the kids did not wear warm coats or boots and some wore no coats at all.

My group was a little difficult to manage.  I was exhausted after about an hour (we were there for 4 hours) and somehow, the 3 volunteers that came to help MY class ended up with the other 2 teachers.  How in the hell did that happen???

I did not take one stupid picture today.  UnFREAKINbelievable

meetings

I spent the day with this guy.

He is one of my favorite presenters.  He is very knowledgeable and has a way of saying things that just makes sense to me.

work

I worked hard today.  Then, I played hard. I'm not really looking forward to my meetings tomorrow, but oh well.

Go Blackhawks!  Beat Vancouver!

Sunday

Today was fun.  We spent a lot of time in the woods and I had 2 softball games.  Then, I ended the day by having dinner with a great friend.

I wish that we could do it all again tomorrow.

best.slide.ever.

I took this picture in the summer of 2008.  I think the ball was still in the outfield, but Hayden loved to slide!

paw prints

My class earned 20 paw prints this week and that means they earned an extra recess!  So, we went out yesterday at the end of the day.  Several of my students play the guitar in our after school program and a couple of them got their guitars out and started playing.  It was a great way to end the day.

procrastination

I have homework due tomorrow for my IU class.  I’m avoiding it like the plague right now.  I’m tired and cranky.  So, I’m just going to blog hop and post some pics.

Harrison does NOT like it when I take his picture.  My mom kept pestering him to smile, so this is what he did…..

confusion

So, Hayden was digging around in a box of old clothes last night and he came running into the room with these socks on his feet.  He said, MOM!  look at these socks and he put his little feet up on the table.  He was laughing his head off.

They are Harrison’s old socks.  I think he was 4 years old when they were given to him.  I have a friend that is a huge Cardinals fan.  She wanted to buy him a shirt, but I said, NO WAY.  So, she got him some socks instead.  When he put them on, I told him to go play in the mud.

class clown

My reading group is reading Class Clown by Johanna Hurwitz.  It’s about a kid that loves to make people laugh.  We have been having a great time reading about this Lucas character and laughing at all the silly things he does in class.  A couple of my little cherubs thought it would be fun to emulate some of his stunts.  I did not laugh.

After he gets a note sent home (in chp. 1), he decides to change his ways and become a model student.  We are reading chapter 4 tomorrow and I’m ready for Lucas to straighten up and do the right thing.  Come on, Lucas.  I know you can do it!

sleep

I slept on my heating pad all day because my back hurts. It still hurts.  I hate when it does this.

Stormy was about 2 months old in this pic.  I love this dog.

field trip

I promised Henry a trip to Butler, if they made it to the Final Four again this year.  We finally made it up there today.  We found two unlocked doors and then, bam, we were on the court!  Henry loved every minute of it.  Hinkle Fieldhouse is a beautiful building.  I loved the old creaky, patched up floor.  Now, I want to see a game there.

rain

It stormed all morning.  Baseball and soccer was cancelled. (woo hoo)  I love storms.  I even named my dog Stormy.  I especially love a storm that has lots of thunder and lightning!

And since I didn’t post yesterday…..

rough day #2

The day started out really well.  I opened up my bottle of Secret and found a cute message from a little boy written into the deodorant.  Not sure who the culprit is yet, but it made me laugh.  Silly boys.

So, then I went to work.   Somehow, today was worse than yesterday.   I’m working on a new mantra because Finish Strong is definitely not working.

Today was rough.  finish strong.  finish strong. finish strong.....

superman

I’m watching Waiting For Superman.  I’m a little worried that it’s going to put me in a bad mood.  I’m already a little bothered by the fact that I have to listen to George W. talk.  That man gets on my last nerve.

I bought Henry and Hayden an Xbox live membership and a gamer headset tonight . It took the boys about 10 minutes to log in, create a party, and invite their little friends to join their game.  With the headset, they can talk to their friends and tell them to look out when the zombies are coming!  Technology is so cool.

baseball

Tonight is the final four championship game.  Butler better bring it and beat UCONN!  I’m glad that tonight is the final game.  I’m tired of basketball.  Opening day for MLB was last Thursday and I haven’t seen one game yet.  I need to work on that.  Go Cubs!

my bike

I love my bike.  I went for a ride today.  Harrison and I are planning a ride to the Indiana Dunes this summer.  I am so pumped!  It will probably take us about 2 1/2 days to get there.

It’s 76 degrees out and that makes me so happy.

Blue

I hope Blue gets to go to the game tonight.  They have not been letting him in at some of the venues.  He has been a little blue about this decision.

April Fools

Today was April Fool’s Day.  What fun!  NOT..  I do remember having fun with this stupid (dare i call it a holiday)  when I was little.   I did April Fools one person today.

Just spent 2 days in St. Louis with a bunch of teachers.  Very eye opening experience for all involved.  This year has been one big nightmare after another in my opinion.  I asked the big dog in charge if I could go back to 3rd grade next year.  She seemed a little surprised by this request and told me that it was not very likely to happen.

Harrison got the Outstanding Student Athlete award at the Winter Sports Awards banquet a couple of nights ago.  I was in MO and missed it.  His dad was at baseball practice with his little brother.  Parenting at its finest.  I’m just sayin…..

I’m having game night with the twins.  We ordered pizza and drank lots of Pepsi.  We are playing sequence and they have beat me every time!  I’m losing my edge.
