softball

I played in my first softball tournament of 2011 yesterday.  I was frozen solid most of the day and I can barely walk today.  We played 5 games.  I got hit in the knee and the ankle with the ball.  The two teams that I played with didn’t do very well, but I did have some fun.  It was good to see all my softball friends, but I don’t think I want to play anymore games in cold weather.  It was snowing for about 2 hours and I could barely see the ball with all the huge snowflakes.

Since I was on the softball field all day yesterday, I missed the Butler - Florida game!  I called Henry several times during our game to find out how they were doing.   The game went into overtime and he was going crazy.  I could barely understand anything that he was saying, so I told him to call me back when the game was over.  When he called back, he said, Butler is going to HOUSTON!!!  Way to go Butler!   We need to make another road trip to Indy to get final four t-shirts this time.

The game

Butler is playing tonight and henry is PUMPED!  The game starts at 10 pm and I'm breaking all kinds of rules by letting my son stay up til midnight on a school night to watch this game.

If I made him go to bed at 9 tonight, I seriously doubt that he would be do any sleeping though.  I mean, HE is the one who told me when the game started.  He heard it on B97....

So, come on Butler!  Show those Wisconsin people that basketball is an Indiana thing.

Basketball

Henry filled out his first NCAA bracket!  He has Duke and Butler in the final game again, but this year, he says that Butler is going to win the whole thing. I hope he's right.

amazing moments

This has been a pretty relaxing week.  I read a lot of books, went to a spring training baseball game, watched a movie with Harrison (daybreakers) and took some naps.  I made a list of fun stuff that happened this week….

10.  Went to Walmart at midnight for sheets.  I’m pathetic.  I need soft sheets that are made of 100% cotton or I can’t sleep.  I made Harrison go with me.  He couldn’t believe that they cost $60 (actually cheap) and he wanted to know if spending that much money on sheets would affect his life in any way.

9.  Got my haircut at Hair Force.  (great cut by a woman that is originally from Indiana and her oldest son’s name is Robert Montgomery….)

8.  Henry told on Hayden because he was cutting his toenails.  (Really Henry?  I would love to never have to touch your feet or anyone else’s feet ever again!  Henry claimed to be worried that Hayden was going to cut the end of his toe off.

7.  Hayden won’t stop using the word BRANG and Harrison finally figured out how to break him of it.  Hayden kept saying.   I BRANG my PSP and Harrison just answered with what? what? what? what?  until Hayden said, I brought my PSP.  Harrison said,  OH, now I understand what you are saying….  I can’t believe it worked, but I’m definitely using it.

6.  Learned how to do a faceoff in hockey without someone dropping the puck.

5.  I got my picture taken with a real Irishman  (and the guy that was with him had a t-shirt on that said, I’m Magically Delicious)

4.  Watched Hayden make the best St. Patrick’s day face ever!

3.  I beat Harrison in mini-golf and Henry beat everyone including the next Tiger Woods.  aka, Carter H.

2.  I told the twins that they could download any song that they wanted onto my new phone.  Hayden picked a Justin Bieber song (baby) and Henry picked the Scooby Doo theme song!

1.  Walked in the ocean with tons of Stingrays and saw a manatee swimming in the bay from the back deck!

It was just the break that I needed.  I hope that I can go back to school and finish this year strong.  That is the plan anyway.

technology and hair

Ok, so I was all excited this morning about posting my first blog from my phone.  It took me twice as long to type it up using that little screen, but I didn’t care.  I wanted to be able to blog from my phone.  It didn’t work.  I’m a little irritated.  There is an app that you have to pay for that may work, but I’m not spending my money on that.  oh, well.  I’ll deal with that later.

I’m getting my hair cut today.  I’ve been trying to get it cut since Sunday, but the technique of driving around trying to find a place that is open and has a wait of less than 5 minutes wasn’t working out.  So, yesterday I searched for a place on-line.  I found a place called Hair Force.  Well, you know I love a good laugh, so I called the place up and made an appt.  They better not screw up my hair!

Also, I wanted to say that I’m pretty proud of the fact that I still have not eaten one french fry in 2011.  I mean, my mom gave up after about 2 weeks and I watched my friend Jennifer give in a couple of weeks ago, but I’m still holding strong and I think my friend Lee is still rocking and rolling.  I know that I’m not going to be magically skinny by the end of the year because of this, but I do think that I’m doing something good for my body.  I mean french fries can’t be good for you, right???  Anyway, I’ve found that I try to avoid places in town that have good french fries, like Mcdonalds and Wendys, but Upland’s and Nick’s fries are amazing.  And who in their right mind can avoid those places??  NOT ME.  So, I try to order stuff that doesn’t include fries or ask for a salad.  Next year, I will have to stop eating chips!

spring break

I have this to-do list that is about a mile long.  It’s in my head.  It keeps rattling around and annoying me.  I’m trying to ignore it, but it won’t go away.  I did find out that it goes away when I’m reading a really good book.  I’ve read two so far and I’m about halfway through another one.  I’m reading tinkers now.  It’s ok, but it’s not a grab you by the hand, drag you along the pages kinda book, like the other two were.  I love the bookmark that I’m using.  Hayden made it last year.

The boys have had a blast collecting shells, pieces of coral and other bits of ocean life that have washed up on shore.  They have built several sand castles.  One castle was pretty elaborate.  Each room had its own name.

They really loved walking with the manta rays.  They were so surprised when they just swam right up to the beach.  You should have seen the look on Henry’s face when I asked him, "well, why do you think the MLB team that is 5 minutes from here is called the Tampa Bay Rays??????”

That strawberry-looking thing that is in Harrison’s hand is really a piece of coral…  Yeah, I know.  ewwwww!

Check out this picture that I took of the sun…..

That is probably one of the coolest pictures that I have ever taken.

The boys brought their street hockey gear to Florida.  There are a lot of Canadians down here, so when they go out to play, they attract a lot of attention.  The Canadian kids just walk up and say, I want to play!  It’s so cool.

I’m going to try and get tickets for a spring training baseball game tonight, but first, I’m going to take a nap, read a little more and work really hard to block out that to-do list!

banquet

I attended my first Bloomington Blades hockey banquet tonight.  Man, there were a lot of wealthy people in that room.  You know that place called Upland?  Well, the owner’s kid plays hockey, so he was there.  And that place called Oliver Winery?  Yeah, they were there, too.  Oh, and that place called Solution Tree?  Yep, you guessed it.  Henry and Hayden are on the same team with his kid.  There were lots of others, but I don’t them all that well.

I love pulling into an ice rink lot and parking my dented up, 8 year old Ford Focus next to all the Hummers and SUV’s.  It cracks me up.  I really don’t want a new car, but my boys barely fit in the backseat and their equipment takes up most of the cargo space.  Hockey is an expensive sport.  It’s a lot of equipment and it’s not cheap!  Thanks to Nick and Jill for giving us most of the equipment, so that the twins could play this year.  The boys loved playing and I truly enjoyed watching them.

Track has started for Harrison.  He is bound and determined to run a mile under 5 minutes this year.  He got new running shoes yesterday that weigh about 10 oz.  I can’t wait to see him run his first race.   I’ll be screaming my fool head off for him!
