The numbers

My mom is 64 today. I think she's had a pretty great birthday. She's asleep now, but not snoring yet!  I have to wake up in 8 hours and run 13.1 miles. And I started today. That was not supposed to happen. Its only been 23 days. There are 15 port-o-potties along the route.  I'll probably use 5 or 6 of them.  It's supposed to be 75 degrees at 7:30 and almost 90 by 10. I plan to be done by 10.  There are 12 water stations.  I hope my mom stays hydrated. I haven't trained like I wanted to, but I have definitely been exercising a bunch this past month.  The stairs at Fairview Elementary school remind me every day that I'm not in shape yet.  This will be my 14th half marathon. I'm thinking about where to run number 15. Time to get some sleep.

Grading

I'm sitting at the pool grading papers. I couldn't help but stop and blog about this math test answer!!! It made me so happy!!

I'm definitely going to teach this kid how to do this tomorrow!!

How is it Sunday afternoon?

Well this weekend came and went in a big hurry.  Harrison's first run as a junior was successful.  He placed 8th in his big XC meet.  I think there were 10 or 12 schools there.   I thought he was going to place somewhere in the top 20, but when he placed in the top ten, I was ecstatic!  He even got a medal!!!

Then I was off to the hockey fundraiser 5K.  I almost signed up for this run a couple of weeks ago, but decided to work a water station instead.  I'm so glad that I did because it was about 90 degrees and miserable out!  I also have my half marathon next weekend and I don't want to pull or tear anything.  A bunch of little Blades hockey players were helping me hand out water and Hayden started to turn white.  He crawled under the table and almost passed out.  I had to get him out of there fast!  When I got home, his temperature was 102.  He started throwing up around midnight.   Poor Hayden.

After I got Hayden home, I started getting text messages about the kid's fun run.  Henry won first place!  I had no idea that he was even signed up to run!  His dad and I both missed his race.

I went on a 13 mile bike ride this morning.  I haven't been running much to get ready for this race.  I hope I'm able to do this run.  I ran about 4 miles the other day on a treadmill.  It felt pretty good.  My legs are definitely getting stronger, but I need to run more.

say ok and do it right away

Some of my students are really struggling with this concept this year.  I spent several minutes with one student going over and over this rule.  I'm not doing it tomorrow.  It's exhausting to remind, remind, remind, and get no cooperation.  So, I'm done.  This kid is getting one reminder tomorrow and then it's gonna be game over.

Henry and I biked to our friend's house last night.  She wasn't home, so we played with her neighbor's cat, Louie.  He's pretty cool.

These cute little bunnies were at my friend Whitney's house.  Her dog tried to eat them.

Henry's teeth are all falling out and Hayden wet the bed last night.  It's a full moon and I'd like this week to be over now.  Harrison has a XC meet this Saturday.  He ran a 5k last week in 16:32.  So, I'm really looking forward to this weekend.  I also have to volunteer at the Oliver Winery Bluegrass Fest for the Blades Hockey team.  It's going to be a busy weekend.

summer mode

I spent most of the weekend swimming, biking, and playing with my boys because it's still SUMMER. The pool is open all month and I plan on swimming every day until it closes.  I got my haircut and a pedicure this weekend, so now I am officially ready for the first day of school, which started last week.

I love to facetime with Harrison because he laughs at me the entire time.  He thinks it's so funny when I facetime him for some reason.  I don't even remember what we talked about, but he cracked up and showed me his headphones while we were talking.  His XC season is about to start and I'm excited to watch this kid run!

It's 8:00 and Despicable Me is starting.  I have a sunburn and bedtime is nowhere in site.

This 3rd Grade Class

I have some of the cutest kids on the planet in my class.  I'm finding it really hard to get onto them because of their adorableness.  2 days into this school year and I'm having a blast getting to know these little people.

These kids rule in knowing how to do Daily 5 right.  Special thanks to everyone that made this happen, especially, A Little Leeway.  They are rocking the Boys Town language and working together like pros to make this year fun.  I've had a lot of their older siblings in my class and it's fun to hear these little guys talk about them.  I want to make their year as 3rd graders the best they have ever had.

last day of break

I can't believe how fast this summer flew by.  I spent a great deal of time catching up on my sleep and everything else is pretty much a blur.  I'm pretty happy that I have this blog to look back on and remember that I actually did have a summer filled with lots of adventures.

I wanted my last day of summer break to be eventful, so I made lots of plans and followed through with some of them.  I went to the teacher store with my good buddy Derloshon.  I bought a ton of Charlie Brown stuff to decorate my classroom this year.  I've never had a Charlie Brown classroom.  I got very excited about this school year while shopping for supplies.  I had lesson plan activities bouncing around my head while I was walking up and down the aisles and that's pretty cool.  There are 82 Charlie Brown books at the Monroe County Public Library!

Apparently, the shopping trip wore me out because I came home and crashed.  I woke up to a text inviting me to go out for a boat ride.  I spent about an hour on the lake just taking it all in.  It was a beautiful night.

I really wanted to swim in my pool and ride my bike today, but neither of those things happened.  I did go to the Iron Pit and run 3 miles tonight without stopping to take a break.  I was pretty excited about this.  I averaged 12 minute miles.  Not bad.  27 days until my run.

I'm setting my alarm.  I have two days to get my classroom ready.  Another year of cute third graders.  I can't wait to meet this group.  I want a fun filled year of third grade silliness.  Goofy smiles, funny jokes, and lots of memories.
